ALBERTO and MARINA GHIBELLINI, owners of the vineyard

Alberto and Marina met when they were both very young and immediately decided to share their lives. Married with two children, today they live in the farmhouse that looks out over their vineyards which they manage themselves.

The link with the region of Gavi derives from the family of Marina: her great, great grandfather on her mother’s side, Santo Bertelli (Arquata Scrivia 1840 – Genoa 1892), was a well known artist from Gavi. He was the author of various important paintings and sculptures and is particularly appreciated for his mastery of the fresco technique (there are examples of this in the Cathedral of Albenga, the Church of Santi Carlo and Erasmo in Genova Voltri and the Church of San Lorenzo in Santa Margherita Ligure). The artistic vein has continued with Marina who has a University Degree in Art History and who, when she has time, restores antique furniture.

On the other hand Alberto grew up with the sea, and very early developed a passion for water sports – something of a family tradition – which led him to play Water Polo for about twenty years. He took part in the Olympic games twice winning a bronze in Atlanta in 1996 and a fifth place in Sydney 2000; he also won a gold at the European Championships (Vienna 1995), and a league title, a Champions Cup and an Italian Cup with his club. Apart from his sporting life Alberto has also developed a passion for the study of philosophy in which he has a University Degree and a doctorate.

ROBERTO ABATE, agronomist

Born and bred in the region of Asti, Roberto Abate is not just a well prepared and scrupulous technician, who knows the vines and how to look after them; he is also a gentle man who expresses, in his work, his deep love of the land, its fruits and for those who work on it, in a way that can only really be done by someone with a true family tradition and a rapport with the culture of vine growing that has been built up over time.
